Erasmus+

   Deň 1 sa začína v škole. Celé dopoludnie sme sústredení v aule lýcea a jednotlivé tímy predstavujú svoju krajinu, školu a praktiky udržateľného turizmu v našom regióne. Náš tím skvelo reprezentujú Lenka Hubočanová, Alexandra Dzurillová, Silvia Posluchová a Andrea Zemančíková. Nasleduje krátka exkurzia po škole, ktorá sa na našu ani trošku nepodobá. Napoludnie na náš čaká autobus, vezieme sa k 5* hotelu Astir Odysseus. Na mieste už čaká manažér hotela, ktorý nám v konferenčnej miestnosti porozpráva o spôsoboch, akými sa tento hotel snaží o udržateľný turizmus. Počasie je veľmi veterné, pri pláži nás takmer odfúklo. 

   Deň 2 a náš program je nabitý. Začíname skoro ráno návštevou lokálnej farmy, ktorá úzko spolupracuje s gréckou školou, spoločne sa snažia o podporu lokálnych produktov, žiaci školy navrhli logo tejto iniciatívy, ktorá spája lokálnych producentov (WOW). Pokračujeme vo vinici, sprevádza nás ňou majiteľ, vysvetľuje nám spôsob výroby vína a vezme nás aj do pivnice. Pokračujeme a vezieme sa do ďalšieho 5* hotela, Neptune. Je to obrovský rezort, ocenený certifikátmi udržateľného spôsobu hospodárenia s energiami, zdrojmi, vodou a odpadom. Manažérka nás sprevádza a vedie aj na také miesta, kam sa bežný návštevník nedostane (k čističke vody, k triedičke odpadu, vykurovaciemu systému). Prehliadku končíme v konferenčnej miestnosti a skvelým obedom v hotelovej reštaurácii. 

   Deň 3 je opäť naplánovaný veľmi zaujímavo. Najskôr práca, potom odmena. Študenti pracujú v medzinárodne zmiešaných skupinách, zadanie je vytvoriť prezentáciu, poster, príspevok na sociálne siete, prípadne webstránku s témou Udržateľný turizmus. Je skvelé vidieť, akí kreatívni vedia byť študenti, aké rôznorodé majú nápady a ako úročia všetko, čo sa doposiaľ na Kose naučili. A odmena? Obed v nádhernej reštaurácii v centre mesta Kos, ochutnali sme pravý grécky šalát, tzatziki aj souvlaki (odporúčame). Siesta na pláži, kúpanie sa nekoná (more má 18 stupňov), oddýchneme si a pokračujeme, smer Asklepion, ruiny antickej nemocnice, prvej na svete, kde lekár Hippokrates liečil pacientov a učil svojich žiakov ako liečiť. 

   Deň 4 začína o 7:55, nasadáme do autobusu, vezieme sa do prístavu. Nastupujeme na loď a približne hodinu cestujeme na sopečný ostrov Nisyros. Nachádza sa na ňom aktívny vulkán, exkurzia začína práve na ňom. Máme možnosť vojsť až do stredu krátera Stefanos, všade je cítiť síru. Pokračujeme prechádzkou v malebnom mestečku ako z filmu Mamma Mia, biele domčeky, modré okenice, vôňa jedla, usmiati domáci. Obed na námestíčku, v taverne Irini pod košatým platanom. Cesta loďou späť na Kos je náročnejšia, fúka silný vietor. Učitelia končia stretnutie v dedinke Zia spoločnou večerou pri západe slnka. Rozlúčka, pobaliť kufre, ráno letíme veľmi skoro.

   Ďakujeme gréckemu tímu za prípravu nezabudnuteľného týždňa, odchádzame unavené, ale šťastné, s novými priateľstvami a skvelými zážitkami.

An article about the trip to Kos Island

   All the baggage has been packed, we waved goodbye to our families, it is 5 am and we are leaving. It’s dark outside and we are driven to the airport in Vienna. Our minds are filled with expectations and also worries, we are looking forward to a 6-day-long adventure in the Greek island of Kos. We switched the plane in Athens and landed in the island in the afternoon. Our students met their host families and we, the teachers, were picked by the Greek teachers. Day 0 was travelling day mostly.

    Day 1 started at the 2nd Lyceum of Kos, the secondary school. We spent the whole morning in the aula, watching students presenting their presentations about their countries, their schools and good practices of sustainable tourism in their regions. Our Gymnazium was represented excellently by Lenka Hubočanová, Alexandra Dzurillová, Andrea Zemančíková and Silvia Posluchová. We continued with a short excursion around the school (which looked completely different from ours). After that we jumped on the bus, the target destination was a 5-star hotel Astir Odysseus where the hotel manager explained which sustainable practices the hotel does in order to be eco-friendly. We were offered the lunch there as well. The weather was extremely windy, the sea cold.

    Day 2 started early in the morning and the program was very intensive. Our first stop was a farm where farmers grow and sell vegetables mostly. The Greek school closely cooperates with it, the students created the logo of an initiative “Kos locally grown” which connects local producers and local bussinesses (WOW). The second stop is a wineyard with a long tradition of growing grapes and producing wine, we were guided by the owner who explained the whole process from planting the wine trees to the storage of bottles in the cellar. Stop number 3 was another 5-star hotel, Neptune. The hotel manager welcomed us very kindly and guided all around the hotel, also to the parts where the tourists are usually not allowed to go. We had great lunch there as well.

    Day 3 was carefully planned too, work first and then the reward. The students worked in international mixed groups on the task “Eco-tourist guide”. It was great to see all the students spreading their ideas, and showing a high level of creativity. Are you wondering what the reward was? It was a lunch in a beautiful atmospheric restaurant where we tasted tzatziki, typical Greek salad and souvlaki. If you don’t know what meals they are, use google :)

    The following activity was the one we all absolutely loved - the siesta on the beach. However, this was not the end of the day. The Greek students invited us to visit Asklepion, an acient hospital where the acient doctor Hippocrates cured his patients and taught his students. 

    Day 4 started early in the morning, with a meeting at 7:55 by the Greek school, the direction was Nisyros, a vulcanic island. We boarded the ship and travelled for about an hour to the island. It is famous for its active vulcano which we were supposed to visit. What an experience! We could go to the very centre of the Stefanos crater, the biggest on the island. Our feelings were mixed due to the potential risk - it is an active vulcano with the smell of sulphur all around. The whole Erasmus group continued to the small picturesque village with tiny white houses, blue roofs and windows where you could smell homemade food and see kind smiling citizens. The lunch was arranged in the typical Greek taverna on the tiny main square of the village. We returned back to the Kos island by the boat. The teachers ended their meeting with the dinner in a small village called Zia, in a romantic restaurant where we were eating while watching the sunset. Afterwards, it was time to say goodbye, to pack and get ready to leave.

    Big THANKS to the Greek team for everything they prepared and arranged for us. We left the island with unforgettable experiences, many new friendships, tired but happy. See you soon.

   Andrea: "Výlet na ostrov Kos bol skvelý. Naučila som sa veľa nových vecí ohľadom životného prostredia a ako zostať eco-friendly. Navštívili sme dva udržateľné hotely, kde sme videli ich systém na recyklovanie odpadu a zúčastnili sme sa prezentácií o jednotlivých hoteloch. Taktiež sme navštívili ostrov Nisyros s typickou architektúrou a aktívnou sopkou.

    Na druhej strane sme čas netrávili iba učením a večery sme mali voľné - trávili sme ich s gréckymi hosťujúcimi rodinami. Viackrát sme navštívili pláž, pochutili sme si na výbornom jedle, alebo sme sa len rozprávali. Najlepšie na Erasme však bolo pre mňa spoznávanie nových ľudí."

    'Trip to the island of Kos was incredible. I learned a lot about the environment, and how to stay eco-friendly. We went to two sustainable hotels, we saw there their recycling system, participated in hotel presentations and so on. We also visited the island of Nisyros with typical Greek architecture and with the active volcano!

    On the other hand, there weren't only learning activities and we had some free time in the evenings with our host families. We visited beach for several times, we ate the most delicious food I have ever eaten, or just talked to each other. Overall, the best thing was that I made many new friends there.🙂'

    Lenka: "Pobyt na Kose som si veľmi užila a je mi ľúto, že trval tak krátko. Najviac mi budú chýbať večerné prechádzky v prístave a na pláži s našimi novými kamarátmi z Erasmu. Taktiež nezabudnem na celodenný výlet loďou na ostrov Nisyros, kde sme mohli vidieť domčeky ako z rozprávky."

   'I really enjoyed the time we spent on Kos and I'm kind of sad that it lasted so short. The things I'll miss the most are probably the late night walks in the harbour and around the beach with our new friends from Erasmus. I'll never forget the Beautiful boat trip we took the last day of our stay to an island called Nisyros where we could see the beautiful classical Greek houses.'

   Alexandra: „Výlet do Grécka bol nad moje očakávania aj keď počasie zo začiatku nebolo ideálne. Najlepšia časť programu bol posledný deň, výlet na ostrov Nisyros. Mestečko na ostrove bolo ako vytrhnuté z filmu Mamma Mia. Študenti hosťujúcej školy boli ochotní a vo všetkom nám vyhoveli najviac ako vedeli. Myslím si, že sme si všetky cely týždeň užili a budeme naň ešte dlho spomínať.“

    'The trip to Greece was above my expectations even though the weather wasn’t ideal for the first 2 days. The best part of the program was the last day there. It was a trip to the island Nisyros. It looked like from Mamma Mia. I think that all of us enjoyed it and we will never forget it.'

    Silvia: „Projekt Erasmus, ako aj samotné Grécko, ma neskutočne prekvapili. Všetky moje obavy sa rozplynuli už po pár vetách s mojou hostiteľskou rodinou. Neviem, či som sa niekedy predtým stretla s takou pohostinnou a kamarátskou atmosférou. Okrem života v rodine si odnášam aj veľa informácií a skúseností zo samotného projektu.

    Pochopila som:

- aký nebezpečný môže byť turizmus pre životné prostredie,

- ako rešpektovať iné kultúry,

- prečo dbať na výber svojho hotela s certifikátom,

- aké faktory vplývajú na život v turistickej oblasti,

- prečo by sme mali podporovať lokálnych, malých predajcov a ešte mnoho ďalšieho.

   Tieto informácie sme nadobudli nie len na profesionálnych prednáškach, ale najmä v praxi. Strávili sme čas s manažérmi hotelov, ktorí nám názorne ukázali, čo všetko stojí za prevádzkou ekologického hotela.“

    'The Erasmus project and Greece itself surprised me immensely. All my worries disappeared after a few sentences with my host family. I don't know if I've ever encountered such a hospitable and friendly atmosphere. I have also learnt a lot and gained experience from the project itself.

   I understand now:

- how dangerous tourism can be for the environment,

- how to respect other cultures,

- why to opt for a hotel with a certificate confirming sustainable practices,

- what factors affect life in the touristy areas,

- why we should support local, small retailers and much more.

   We obtained this information not only from professional lectures, but especially in practice. We spent time with hotel managers, who clearly showed us what is behind the maintenance of an ecological hotel.'
